Parked just off the A68 next to the locked gates, from there we followed the path past the disused toilet block, then reached a barbed wire fence which is easily scalable. Continued North West to the tree line and with some searching found the trig. 0°c with lots of snow.

Parken at old entrance to plantation. Walked through the wood and then followed perimeter of wood and field. No fence to climb over. Easy access from field. No crops in field.

Jack's not too impressed. He likes a view!

Beautiful bluebell wood. I live locally and was intrigued by the.mention of the abandoned eerie buildings. Yes was quite spooky. Nice location though.

Understand the ‘eerie’ comments mentioned by others! Ran up Brusselton from Shildon and along past Oak Tree to the entry to the ‘picnic area’. Followed the asphalt path to the barbed wire fence and then over that and hunted around to the N before sweeping around to the W and finding the prize.

Edge of woodland. Accessed from pull-in off the A68 (NZ 2135 2284). Good mapped track heading NW, over easy wire fencing into Toytop Fox Covert and through open woodland. Central tube and rear sight hole open. No views.

Revisit (previous not logged). Cycled from High Beaumont Farm. Depressing entry into wood at the lay-by, lots of rubbish about - once past the old toilet block OK. The sylvan darkness was very atmospheric - over a fence & on to the pillar (the trig at the end of the wood) - very nice setting. As I had the bike with me, I was able to get back to the A68 a shorter way, avoiding the rubbish.

Easy enough. Parked in the old entrance to the picnic site, through it, crossed over the barbed fence, then went diagonally left to the edge of the wood. Pillar has no view.

Parked at the gate and wandered up through the woods, I thought perhaps some old camp site until I read the previous logs as the only thing left standing was the toilet block and a few old picnic benches, slightly eerie. Pillar located just inside the tree line.

I had some spare time on my post round so I decided to go for this trig. Had to wander round in the wood a bit as I thought the trig would be on the highest ground, so just kept walking up hill. ended up wrong end of woods near the road. Soon found it after getting to the right bit of the wood.

Accessible if you are prepared to ignore Private notices climb a gate and cross a fence. I parked in a field entrance to the north on the A68 and walked back to the start of the woodland. Crossed a gate and walked along the field edge of the woodland following it round a corner until the pillar could be seen in amongst the trees. I then crossed a low fence to reach my quarry. Pillar is in good condition, well protected but missing a plug. No real views apart from trees, trees and trees.

I parked at the entrance of what seems to be a long abandoned theme park, it was actually quite surreal walking along an overgrown road with speed bumps and into a carpark with a long abandoned toilet block, past bench seats in the undergrowth and moss covered noticeboards depicting nursery rhymes.What happened here I wonder, a failed business venture aimed at children, after all this is Toy Top. I finally arrived at the trig, which is missing its centre plug but not in bad condition, no views though as the wood has grown up around it.

For this one I parked in the entrance of the long abandoned rest area / pick-nick spot. It would appear that the local Council, or whoever ran it, just locked the gates one night and forgot to open them again. Very over-grown now but toilet block (not working) and visitor information notices still in place… very eerie. I followed the metalled path as far as it went then bushwhacked through the woodland to the trig-point. The pillar is in good condition but the centre plug has been removed. Being inside the wood, there are no views.

Visited on a frosty but sunny day. Parked at abandoned picnic area and walked up through small woodland to find pillar at far edge. No view from inside woods, but pleasant 180 degree views once you step outside. Plug missing.

I didn't see any deer. It was pretty eerie in these woods, especially not knowing whether I should be there or not. There is a pull-in space for one car on the eastbound carrigeway, about 200 meters past a way into the wood.
