Rough verge, close to road edge, parking opposite better as layby very narrow. Took some additional measurements - 9m from end of the layby; 23.9m from centre of layby; 0.7m from edge of tarmac. The cap is loose, came away when digging away surrounding soil etc. Replaced as best as possible.

The top of the Berntsen is 'below ground level' as can be seen from the photos, ground level being the accumulated grass and top soil in the grass verge. Luckily the material removed on previous visits has not found its way back into the hole (yet).

we had difficulty locating this one as the GPS wanted us to go another 30ft into the bushes. so we looked at other photos on my phone and decided where it might be & managed to find it. We cleared the grass off it and it is in good condition.

Dartmoor Deliverer's mobile phone picked up enough signal to access this TP site on route to YSM611 which is nearby, and to our delight we found we would be passing this one! Parked in convenient layby and walked on to GZ which seemed to be impossibly through the brambles. Previous Berntsens that I have found have always been at ground level, so we searched and soon spotted a likely area - discovered that a glass bottle had probably been placed to indicate the presence of this Bernsten! Cleared for photos and then carefully replaced bottle for future finders!

I had to re-visit this one out of sheer embarrassment :) after "The Governorís" log, the mistake I made was going with flow, totally agree that the old car fan motor is not an OS marker of any sort and the Berntsen is where it should be along the road a few yards, all in good condition.

Ok guys, nice try but you've been rumbled:-) Having dug out the piece of scrap metal (car part?) I consulted the OS photo (no sketch), which more or less agrees with Gps, I prodded in the edge of the brambles and in a few mins found a Berntsen (well it is a FBM Aux) in a slight depression but not buried. Locate tall ivy "bush" at W end of layby. Berntsen is 4m further W, in S verge, 0.8m back from road edge.

Imposter "bolt" outed :-) Scrap metal - car part?

It really is there, by the side of the road, in a passing-point layby. Very worn top, probably because of all the cars that keep driving over it!
