Old Man's significant birthday, celebrated with a visit to Godolphin House, then a drive to the N coast, picking up this trig en route. On high plinth, just climbable by an old lady (but I'm glad no-one saw me as it took a few attempts!). Dense fog so no views, but trig has metal cap with deep letters, E s/hole open, otherwise vgc.

The pillar stands on a 1.5 metre plinth in a hedge bank between a grass field and a ploughed field on a small hill to the south of Hayle. It has a metal cap with deep lettering and has FB S7873. The track to Trethingey Farm runs through the grass field to the west of the trig; it is a public bridleway and was entered from Wheal Alfred Road to the north. The site has a wonderful view taking in St Agnes Beacon in the northeast; Hayle town and estuary to the north with the dunes beyond; St Ives to the northwest and Penzance, Newlyn and St Michaelís Mount to the south west. Farmland, low hills and ridges could be seen to the east.

An enjoyable walk / jog from Phillack (Hayle) using bridleways and "tracks" under the A30 and via strawberry lane and trewoone farm. track degenerates due to overgrowth at trewoone, but farmer helpfully directed me through planted field toward trethingy farm. - - leaving only two electric fences to negociate :-{ . This trig offers a very good view of both the st ives bay and penzance (and newlyn) town (and of course st michaels mount is visible. Easy to find, map indicates this is not quite on the highest point, but the plinth means that top of trig is higher than surrounding land.
