Touring Salisbury Plain today picking up any geocaches and trig points on the way. Parked just down the road at the Tank crossing point and walked back for this roadside trig. Pillar ok, plug missing, paint flaking

Parked in layby at Sidbury Villas, just north of Tidworth cemetery and just walked west! Crossing the Old Marlborough Road, from here to the road the track has been re-surfaced with railway ballast - not kind on the feet, so opted for the grass. Watched the parachutists descending to Netheravon Airfield. Excellent views. Very tranquil - army must have day off.

I kept cycling along byway to the W until I hit a road. Trig is just off it at the end of a runway. Had fun watching parachutists coming in to land a a plane take off (not at same time, though.)

Pillar located in overgrown verge very near road. Has its own pull in nearby for an easy bag. Good all round views.

Easter Monday outing to Salisbury plain. No red flags flying so able to drive the byways with ease. Easiest find of the day and I stopped for a breather to watch the parachutists floating down.

Eventful walk here from Sidbury Camp Hill-fort with the Army putting in several appearances in the form of tanks and soldiers on the ground! Just slightly disconcerting! Oh, and then there were the helicopters. My second trig of the day was something of an anti-climax, but seems to be in good condition in its roadside setting.

Roadside location in an area of much military activity and close to the Netheravon Army airfield. Pillar is in good condition, has been painted white (the flush bracket also, but not the spider), plug missing, 3 sight holes open, the rear one is closed. No views to speak of.

Onwards from Silk Hill - preparations for some kind of military helicopter refuelling exercise going on! Wonderful flowers on the Plain. Some views N and W but lots of trees. S s/hole closed all others open; FB painted white; no cap or plug but otherwise vgc.

Decided to drop in on this one on the way back from the Wylye valley.Could almost have logged it without getting out of the car.White painted.No tanks about but there was a low-flying helicopter as I approached from the west.

The pillar is situated next to a minor road, near a tank crossing on a flat summit; it has no plug, is painted white and has FB S1928. The site is within the area of the unimproved chalk downland of the Salisbury Plain SSSI. A grassy plain extends to the north and west; a small airfield lies to the southwest and Beacon Hill can be seen to the south between two plantations; Sidbury Hill lies to the east.

A very white-painted trig by the roadside. Even the flush bracket is painted white! Only the S sighthole is closed, all the others are open. The plug is missing. There are excellent views, especially to the N and W - you can see the tanks moving across the Plain today!
