Called at house for permission. Pressed doorbell twice. No response, rattled the letterbox, still nothing. I was just climbing over the wall to go up to pillar when door was opened. Explained I had tried to ask but it seemed I had not pressed bell hard enough because he demonstrated that it was functioning properly. I was given permission.

Personal trig pillar on a little mound. in the front garden on a glorious little wooded hillside.. what a real luxury that is..!! permission granted easily for me to go and visit.

My lucky day or what? Pulled up at the road/private road junction where a man was mowing the verge. This turned out to be the householder within whose garden the pillar now resides. I was invited to drive up to the house and then walk round to the back of the house and where the small wall ends to climb a short distance up the grass bank to the pillar. He also phoned ahead to advise his wife of my imminent arrival and purpose. If only trigpointing was always like this. Pillar remains in a good condition. I got the impression that a request to visit would always be agreed to.

Trig point is in a garden but I sneaked up from the 'blind side' and got as close as possible without disturbing the occupiers of the house then back in seconds.

Wandered up a track through the trees to this one and then over a fence, presumably into someone's (large) garden. A quick photo and away. Not much to be seen from here.

Parked at the junction and followed the tractor trail up the field. Trig is fenced off and in someone's garden. There was someone about, so didn't risk going right up to the trig.

Second visit. For photographs and GPS readings. HISTORY: Pillar completed 23rd October 1952 costing £15.6s.0d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NJ45/T43 in 1953. Levelled for height also in 1953. Last maintained by the OS in May 1987. SITE VISIT: Approached from northwest. Parked to northeast of junction of roads at NJ240601, NW side of side road. Walked up via communal drive to houses. Accessed with kind permission of owner of adjacent house which was built in year 2000. The woodland where the pillar stands now forms part of the garden. Column in good condition. Spider has replacement OS centre cap with raised large wide letters. Flush bracket faces due (magnetic) north 0°. Vented through west sight hole. Any views long since lost to surrounding woodland but occasional glimpses of distance can be seen through the trees.

2 houses built here 4/5 years ago and the trig now is within the grounds of one of them. Knocked and no problem.

First visit. To record FB number. Pillar completed 23rd October 1952 costing £15.6s.0d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NJ45/T43 within the Elgin secondary block during 1953. The flush bracket was levelled for height to first class precision, tertiary standards in November 1953. The pillar was last maintained by the OS in May 1987. A Tuesday night stroll in the dark while in Elgin on business. This was long before any houses appeared in these woods.
