Stopped here on the way to Crowborough expecting an easy find. Oddly not marked on the OS Explorer map OL25 but is on the Landranger no 198. Parked on Sand Ridge, quite a new housing estate and using a guide book tried locating the path suggested but this was closed off. Then referred to this group and eventually found the pillar hidden in a clump of trees opposite the row of houses further up Sand Ridge, around to the right. Nearly abandoned my effort even then. It is just visible from the road. Had to climb a fence and hack a way through to get a picture of the FB. Rewarding find in the end so extra point for that. No views at all though.

In the middle of a new housing estate and has had a fence put around the quarry to stop children falling in the water. Almost obscured by greenery. I was told off by a local resident for standing in the shrubbery to get a closer look as it was paid for by the locals.

Parked on Sandridge, in the new(ish) residential estate and hopped over chain link fencing into scrubby woodland. Pillar is visible from the road and sits quite close to the fencing. There is some fracturing to the top screed; an original centre cap is retained, raised lettering; RHS sight hole open. No views. Chatted with a resident outside his house, suggested they clubbed together and put in a stile or gate.

Easily spotted from the road (Sand Ridge), but is behind an easily jumpable 5ft fence. The house owner questioned my antics but didn't mind once he knew what I was doing. This is another trig pillar not marked on OS maps, an issue which I have notified OS directly about.

Could find no way in except over the 5' wire mesh fencing - impossible to climb for me, so asked a resident for a ladder! There was a white van parked opposite the trig with full set of ladders on top. I tried a likely house to no avail and then the van owner appeared (think it was the house to right of street name sign). He had no problem lending me a ladder but at my own risk as he was a Police Officer! Very chatty and thrilled to have the trig pointed out to him - never seen it in the five years he had lived opposite. It did explain people walking up and down the fence and in some cases climbing over. Take a small step ladder to get into the woodland. Return easy due to thick plank-like cross bars on trig side.

Since the last log a 5ft high wire fence has been erected. I will go back another time but 4pm on a warm Sunday afternoon wasn't the right time to go climbing fences in front of an audience from the new houses!

Mmm. This could still be here, but it could have gone. Field which has previously given others access now contains nearly completed new houses impossible to skirt around - compare my photo with plet56's. New access road to estate to S, but some houses already occupied and despite the early hour people were around. I suspect TP is still there, on rocky treey bluff above estate, but access will be tricky and trespassy and furtive. One for a revisit at a time less likely to get much attention.

New houses. No way in. If TP still exists it\'s behind them somewhere.©Cipollini

mickandshane's directions are spot on...except for one problem, it seems that the rough pasture is due to contain a new development of houses. When you get to the metal gate you are presented with a temporary fence and a huge mound of earth! It is still possible to skirt round the fence (head left) and reach the trig which seems safe from the development within the trees. However, once the houses are up, I don't know if it will be possible to access it!!
