Had to show some interest in the rescue horses to get my wife to show interest in this trig point. Turned out to be a very well run centre with lots of appreciative ponies who liked being fussed over. My luck ran out as I bent down to read the notes of a big black Shire. " ...can be bolshy.." it said ; as I was clouted with its massive head. PS to ted, the horse rescue centre was originally called Underhill Farm.

Friendly staff pointed out the route to the trig pillar. Location just outside paddock, view towards Winter Hill. Wet but not muddy field. Plastic cap, flaking white paint. Unclear where the OS took the name from; on the map, its Peel Hill.

Asked permission to visit the trig in the cafe and told no problem. One of the volunteers hadn't been to the pillar before and wanted to know what all the fuss was about, so came with us. Enjoyed a good slice of carrot cake and a pot of tea in the cafe afterwards. Highly recommended!

Plastic cap. Very boggy. Escorted by a very friendly member of the shop staff. Had a cuppa and cake in cafe. Were offered a horse but we didn't have room in the car! Open Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesdays would be the best days to tackle this one when the visitor centre is open. They are happy to see Triggers.

A joint visit with Carole. Parked in the Horse Sanctuary Stables car park and located Security Guard and his took. Were taken to the Manager who readily agreed to our request to go touch the pillar. He even showed us the best way to reach it warning that it was very wet. Pillar is in excellent condition but has a replacement plastic type plug. Had a nice long chat and learned a lot about the charity that runs the sanctuary. Have accommodation for just over 50 horses, currently looking after over seventy and still have a waiting list. We left a donation to support this worth cause and hope that it will grease the entry for future visitors.

Given previous comments I went in to the farm to ask permission but given it was a Monday and farm only open wed to Saturday, the woman said no and also because couldn't go up through the farmyard as there was an isolation unit. She said to come back on Wednesday. I was only in Blackpool for an hour. Decided to take a look from the field to the west and walked up through long grass to see if I would be able to see it over the hedge. Sure enough there it was only 20-30 get away in the sunshine and open mown grass. I photographed it from there but didn't however climb over the two barbed wire fences to go right up to it out of respect for the refusal of permission.

Spoke to a chap at the stables about access,no problem, even drove me to the pillar in a buggy because of the wet ground!!We had a good chat about the pillar and it's use,and about the horse centre. He also said, the fencing has been moved so the pillar is no longer in the paddock area due to legal reasons, access has to be granted to the pillar.Really enjoyed my stop here.Anyhow!,pillar in good nick, remnants of white paint,1 sight hole open & plastic replacement plug.Good 360° views hampered by trees. As I live local, will return for a tour of centre, well worth it.

I did so, without encounting anyone other than horses, bagging the pillar in a quick up and down rush. Back to the car, and not a penny spent. Pillar was ok, views modest
