Interesting to note how the lichen blotches on Ianmac's photo in 2007 have now become rings as they have grown out over 9 years.

Approaching from the nearby foopath, the pillar hides behind the hedge, just to the left of hedge/fence junction. The giveaway at the moment is a large (old railway sleeper) fencepost at the junction - use that to mantelshelf over the fence, and S2429 is 6' off to the left. I excavated the flush bracket with the toe of my boot, but it'll soon enough get buried again.

Parked in lane and followed ROW through gates and across field. It's near the pheasant pens and overlooks Halfpenny Green airfield from which an aircraft was taking off. Quite a delightful spot. If you intend to go to Hillend don't bother cos it's gone, but take in the delights of the Dutch gabling at Ludstone Hall just beyond Claverley. The village that gives its name to the major fault that lets down the Triassic rocks to the west and causes the repetition of strata. Eastwards it's back up the scarp to the Staffordshire coalfield.

Quite easy access, just inside a field off a public path. Had to climb the fence to see the flush bracket but it was quite easy to do so. The pheasant-rearing appears to have gone and instead there is much crop diversification - around the pillar are a field of sunflowers [unharvested]; a field of maize [just being harvested]; and another crop that I simply hadn't a clue about!! Never seen anything like it - similar to giant rhubarb. Is this a GM Food establishment?? Anyway, the pillar is very white, on a small knoll with good all round views. The plug is original and one of those unusual ones with deeply indented letters. All sightholes below soil level. TS = JD stamped on the tribracket. A lot of partridges on the footpath field and a buzzard calling overhead.

Could get at the pillar, but not to see the plate as this was thwarted by a high barbed wire fence and nasty thorns. It was not possible to get in without damage. There is a massive industrial pheasant rearing place nearby, best not to hang around here.
