I seem not to have logged this when I visited its near neighbour. GPS put the location inside the water tower fence, 4m back. Pity they didn't leave it in place, then :-( OS trig archive says computed 1936, Dest 1947, refixed 1954, Dest 09/71. S1743 computed 1947 implying the two were present together for 24 years. Also records two Upton Wtr Twr (1985) trigs: Bolt and Centre.

Parked by the reservoir gates whilst visiting the nearby garden pillar - Upton Beacon Connecting Point. So just had to have a look to see where it WAS. I see that the pillar was actually destroyed in 1971 which ties in with what I was told by the nearby householder in that the reservoir was built in the early seventies.

Log #80. (91m). Leg 2 of 11.1km 3 trig hike from Fitzwilliam Rail Station to Upton Beacon. Crazy weather today. Smog warnings from Met Office and the temp reached 38C according to my wrist computer as I was crossing the fields near Badsworth. I figured there was something wrong with it. Cant believe its only April yet! Visibility has improved along the way by 50% to 3km. WOW! I have to agree with Haighr01 about the Went Valley tho. Done a lot of walking in these parts when leading the Leeds Ramblers walks and its very serene. On arriving at Upton Beacon I spoke to the homeowner next to the trigpoint and they showed me their outside wall thermometer which read - you guessed it - 100F (38C), confirming my WComp as correct.

Upton Beacon The position of the trig would have been dead C of photo by my calc.
Upton Beacon landmarks Shinwell Comms Tower. Range 1.5km @ 79deg. Smog can be seen even at this close range.
