With Rosaidh and Luna. Watch out for the GOML! She drove past on her tractor as we were leaving, and having been open about where we had been she started on about trespass and bio security. Empty field, no livestock, stuck to the boundary - I shrugged my shoulders and said she could call it trespass if she liked. Briefly touched on the benefits of Scottish land access rights vs English, then wished her a good day and departed. A memorable outing for the wrong reasons, it's an outstanding view across Exeter to the sea.

Spotted this trig point on my OS map and decided to visit it prior to meeting friends to tackle a nearby night geocache. Walked beside high fence protecting high aerial and buildings, but came to another fence blocking me 30' from GZ which I couldnt see by torchlight. Took photo of "things" within another fence where my GPS was pointing in the hope that it would show the trig but alas no. I have now read previous logs which imply either access is now denied by the new fence I came up to [broken wooden gate thrown in hedge nearby] OR it is possible to get to the trig by entering the adjacent field. From the twinkling house and Christmas lights when facing N I surmise there could be a lovely rural view in daylight!

We parked at the entrance to the mast site, and climbed the fence to the right to gain access to the field to the east of the mast (the only fence climbing necessary). The trig is in the hedge, FB facing east, at the top of the hill. The 'reservoir' behind it is an ROC nuclear bunker, (see Mellor, TP4768). Good views. Tarmac plug.

This TP provides a magnificant panorama, from Exmouth to Taunton (or thereabaouts). It's a must, although the necessary fence-climbing is a trifle difficult. We were blessed, though, with a beautiful Indian summer's evening! "The Beer Engine" is not the nearest pub, but it's worth a visit, as it's a cracking location (in Newton St Cyres, to the NE, by the railway station) and serves its own beer (I had a pint of 'Piston'...mmmm!).
