In the area on a quest and seeing the mast at the top of the hill decided that there must be a pillar here. Trespassed into the cow field and was soon rewarded with not only the pillar but a tremendous view. Plug has been removed and filled with concrete.

Spotted this trig point on my OS map and decided to visit it prior to meeting friends to tackle a nearby night geocache. Walked beside high fence protecting high aerial and buildings, but came to another fence blocking me 30' from GZ which I couldnt see by torchlight. Took photo of "things" within another fence where my GPS was pointing in the hope that it would show the trig but alas no. I have now read previous logs which imply either access is now denied by the new fence I came up to [broken wooden gate thrown in hedge nearby] OR it is possible to get to the trig by entering the adjacent field. From the twinkling house and Christmas lights when facing N I surmise there could be a lovely rural view in daylight!

Parking at entrance to comms compound; over field gate and 50m along field boundary to trig. Found buried in beech hedgerow and becoming brambled; 2 strands b/w directly in front of it. No secateurs or coping saw, so no clearance done. Pillar seems to be in good condition, but unable to see sides or rear; cap missing, asphalt plug; front sight hole sealed, others inaccessible. Friendly cows in field. Good views.

We parked at the entrance to the mast site, and climbed the fence to the right to gain access to the field to the east of the mast (the only fence climbing necessary). The trig is in the hedge, FB facing east, at the top of the hill. The 'reservoir' behind it is an ROC nuclear bunker, (see Mellor, TP4768). Good views. Tarmac plug.

This TP provides a magnificant panorama, from Exmouth to Taunton (or thereabaouts). It's a must, although the necessary fence-climbing is a trifle difficult. We were blessed, though, with a beautiful Indian summer's evening! "The Beer Engine" is not the nearest pub, but it's worth a visit, as it's a cracking location (in Newton St Cyres, to the NE, by the railway station) and serves its own beer (I had a pint of 'Piston'...mmmm!).

Not saying it isn't there. But it's probably inside the wire fence which surrounds the early warning radar station. I would have walked around the parameter and took some photo's, but there were a few workmen about and they were watching me quite suspiciously. Will try again on a weekend.
