Naughty approach from Tetford village, east along South Road, right into lane then across field and into woods. Steep climb up from north side of hill amongst tall nettles and weeds and a bit nervy hearing voices in the field behind me. Might have been better to approach from south getting permission from nearby farm. Kept to field boundaries. Near the southern end of the woods on the top of the hill. Splendid views to south and east.

Verge parking (TF 3514 7431). RoW to Willow Bank Wood (TF 3527 7392), then field boundaries to the trig. Farmer came up by chance when I was there - very unhappy with me being there. We had a civilized chat, he asked that future baggers request access at Somersby House Farm so they know who's on their land - health and safety, don't you know? Pillar sits just into light woodland. Original centre cap retained, lightly indented lettering; rear and RHS sight holes open. Some views E and S.

Short diversion from a circular walk. Permission happily given by farmer and he pointed in the right direction which was easier than we were intending. Go to corner of field on public footpath and then divert up the hill passing the bales on the right. Trig sits in corner of trees and easy to find.

(154) Parked up in Somersby opposite St Margaret's church, and then walked the short distance to the start of the RoW. About half way up at Wardenhill Farm I caught sight of some folks, so asked about the pillar. One of the chaps didn't know what I was referring to, but the other one did. Permission was freely given to visit. A good walk all told to get to the pillar, which is pretty much hidden in the woodland. Of interest is the Church (as well as the village itself) and it's connection to poet laureate Alfred Lord Tennyson - he was born and brought up in Somersby, so these was explored on the way back to my car. Pillar history: Built on the 22nd of June 1938, at a cost of £22 8s 8d. Last maintained by the OS in February of 1981.

Second of two trigs to see uni mate, and an interesting one it turned out to be. Parked in Somersby outside church opposite a strange house looking like a castle. Inside the church found out the poet Tennyson was born in the white house opposite and brought up in the village. Walked up the bridleway to the trig and asked at Wardenhill Farm for permission to go off path to it and it was readily given. Farmer said on a clear day you could see north Norfolk and the 'Flats', i.e. the Wash. Views got surprisingly better as approached the trig, but mist stopped sight of Norfolk. A good trig!
