Somebody definitely has a fetish for pampas grass round here. After the excitement of John O'Groats (cafes closed thankfully) and mac cheese at the Seaview, a much needed hillock top. Stroma looking wonderful.

Easy walk up hill from layby

Has a little more character than the many roadside TPs within a short distance of each other in this area, the most interesting thing here is the amount of wind-blown pampas grass from the house down the road invading the hillside!

Parked in layby, across easy moorland terrain up to cairn and then trig, 1st of 3 trig pillars and 4 FBMs bagged that day, sunshine and showers with good views across to Orkney from top.

Approached via a quarry. Shame about the debris and the litter louts who dump their rubbish in this quarry. Easy walk to be welcomed by stunning views across to Orkney.

Parked in lay-by and headed into quarry and then took a wee track off towards the cairn and the pampas grass as I presumed this was the high point and the trig. However the trig was another 80m from this point. Easy bag, boggy and holey in place, so beware.

ND371698, LR12. HISTORY: Oldest triangulation pillar in Caithness, completed 24th August 1939 costing £14.11s.0d. Computed as primjary triangulation station PP399 as part of Figure 6 of the OSGB36 Primary Retriangulation network in 1951. Laplace station. NE end of Caithness Base, other end is Spital Hill. Also used as a ground control station in the Shoran connection to Iceland. Levelled for height to first class precision, secondary standards in April 1952. Last maintained by the OS in June 1981. SITE VISIT: Approached from northeast. Parked in viewpoint layby on west side of A99 at ND373702. Straight up hill from just south of the disused quarry. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains original OS centre cap with shallow engraved letters. Flush bracket faces NNE, ~30°. Vented through NW sight hole. Open 337° panoramic view includes aspect to Orkney. Summit is overtopped by berm cutting outlook between NE & ENE.

Parked at end of quarry lane and hopped across the heather, past another farmers private landfill site, full of old washing machines and other detritus. Superb views across all aspects, good condition, plug intact, miles and miles of heather, in full bloom.

Again, a fantastic spot with views from Orkney to NW Highlands on a super morning. Original plug with slightly indented letters. N sighthole ope, others closed. No paint. Concrete base exposed slightly on S face. Also did the nearby geocache on the way up. Great spot!

Well-preserved concrete pillar with FB. Vent on N side open. Hexagonal screws in tribach. Fine views across to the Orkney Is and to the hills surrounding the Flow Country. Aesthetic appeal spoiled a little by ugly quarries on the north side of the hill. An ancient cairn tops the hill, with the pillar a little to the SW, and a smaller ?artificial knoll a short distance away to the south.

My GPS say N 58 36.732 W 003 05.043. I forgot to look for the OS Number Doh!!!! Must try harder next time I go out searching. There is a cache very close to this trig point on Warth Hill
