The NT car park is closed for the next few weeks, though there seem to be enough places to pull in beside it - lots of other walkers were following this path today. Lengthy and muddy uphill trek was rewarded by a very expansive view, which managed to be impressive even on a grey day like this. Well worth the perspiration and breathlessness. Seven painted pebbles left at base of trig.

The trig was revisited during a pleasant walk from Crook Peak. I was accompanied by my daughter. The pillar is still in good condition although the paint appears more weathered than 2007. The remains of an asphalt plug line the rim of the spider hole. There are fantastic views all around from this corner of the Mendip Hills although the visibility was not as clear as it was 2½ years ago.

Me & Jacob walked up the fantastic Crook Peak (191m but looks much higher) before following the stone wall over Compton Hill & on to Wavering Down. Passed an interesting stone bench on the way up. Nice pillar, painted white & standing proud. Bit hazey but still fantastic views. Brilliant walk up in The Mendips.

This trig and the walk around it deserve an 8. The views are magnificent; from the Quantocks round through the Bristol channel and over to Glastonbury Tor. A great walk, we started from the car park on the SE side of Crook Peak and followed the path along the ridge to the trig, then back down to the village of Cross - a good pub there too for a reward. Nice walk back along the river Cheddar/Yeo/Axe (depends where you look !!) to the car park.
