Starting from a small layby on the snake, next to the river Alport bridge (and where there's a temporary traffic light currently set up). Took a footpath up to Alport Castles Farm then went off piste heading in a generally northern direction. This is the most remote trig I've visited to date (146th). Pillar in excellent condition. I was above the clouds today so not the best of views. Returned via Alport Castles and it's remarkable ridge overlooking the Tower which had a young couple sat atop. Made my way back to the farm then back along the path to the snake.

Paths not boggy, but wind was vicious and despite layers I was chilled to the bone. I can count on one hand how many baths I have a year, usually to get warm when unable to raise body temperature quick. Gifted to hot baths.....luxury and did the job.

Returned via Derwent Edge, stunning views all day. (12/2/17 I've been to this trig several times over the years but kept forgetting to officially log it so decided to go and bag it today, solo. The weather forecast was crummy with snow and strong wind; it turned out so. I went as far as I thought safe, only 10 minutes away from the pillar and decided to turn back on to an 'escape' route down to Ladybower, direct into the biting easterly 30mph wind, the hail was stinging my skin. But hey, I enjoyed it, the excitement of the most extreme weather I've ever walked in. I'll go another day...)

Parked at Hurst Clough car park and followed the road down to Bridge End car park where I took the PROW leading up onto Hagg Side. Continued NW along the ridge via permissive path leading to Rowlee Pasture and Alport Castles. Trig first comes into view shortly after Alport Castles. Continued heading NW above Alport Dale, eventually crossing a couple of cloughs where the path then becomes rather faint. Followed compass bearing directly to trig which was in good condition with original cap and indented lettering. Just one sight-hole open. Ground heavily eroded around base but no moat guarding it today. From the pillar I headed directly across Westend Moor on a bearing of 065 to the waterfall in Black Clough. Had to cross one fence on the way - is this allowed given it's open access land ? I don't recommend this route as the descent into Black Clough was surprisingly steep. Followed the stream down through the plantation eventually meeting the River Westend and a forest track leading to the road that runs around the western limb of Howden Reservoir. Finally it was a seemingly never ending march along the tarmac beside Howden, Derwent and Ladybower Reservoirs back to the car at Hurst Clough.

Has to be one of the most isolated trig points in the Peak District. Visited it after some very dry weather so the trek to it from Bleaklow Stones wasn't the usual bog-hopping exercise.

Walked up from Fairholmes, past Alport Castles, along the lovely path along the edge. Bit misty, very windy, quite boggy and trig surrounded by its own little defensive moat.
