Rear sight hole closed, others indetermined; cap replaced with asphalt plug. Views S restricted by woodland, otherwise rolling downland to distant hills.

Slight diversion for this one during a circular Steeple Langford/Grovely Castle walk. At last a hot, beautiful summer's day, enhanced by many dog-rose bushes on Wylye Down perfuming the air. This pillar is unusually set against the roadside(Wylye to Dinton),is in good condition with its plug asphalt-filled. Quiet road with little traffic:as I stood there, the joyful song of the lark filled the air - they fluttered up from the ground at intervals. Certainly,in this part of Wiltshire all seems to well with the larks....

Poor visibility today and all that could be seen through the mist was nearby woodland to the south, the site of Hanging Langford Camp to the east and Wylye Down to the west.

The only one I visited today which has been bagged before. Not surprising as it's beside a road. The trig has a reservoir and a 'phone mast as companions (and a lot of ancient features nearby). Views across the Wiltshire Downs are fantastic - Cley Hill to the north and possibly Stonehenge to the East, but the view of the impending cloudburst sent me cycling at speed into grovely Wood. I know I'm and oddball, but does anyone else prefer to walk / cycle / use public transport to visit these places? I get the impression that a lot of oil is consumed in the trigpointing / geocacheing field.
