From road, followed tyre tracks in newly planted field, which led close to pillar. Best views to the north.

Lucky today, the field had probably been harvested earlier in the day and it was possible to visit the trig. The crop was spring barley, so it is possible that they may repeat this and the stubble could be around for a while. There are no fences, this is always arable country so a waste of time visiting during the growing season.

Log #521. Crop too thick, couldn't see way to get to tramlines and I was in full view of farmers in opposite field. Recommend visiting this one in winter, will be back for photos at some point. [ExP-358/MiP-38/Rev-6/BM-40/IS-52/Other-27]

I think I was a couple of days late for this one. Freshly sown crop and a recent downpour meant that rather than p###ing off the farmer I thought I'd settle from the view from the verge which due to the lack of vegetation meant nearly all of the pillar.

On a rounded summit in the centre of a potato field. As we had just experienced a downpour of tropical intensity, climbing from the lane to the pillar was an experience in itself! Original plug with slightly-indented letters. East sighthole open. Traces of paint. Expansive views all round.

Called in at West Hills en route to my first visit to Gayfield Park (Arbroath 2-3 Brechin City) - great entertainment! The pillar was in the middle of a recently ploughed field which was exceedingly muddy. Therefore, donned the trusty wellies, and scuttled across quickly. Pillar in seemingly good condition with cap intact.
