(348) We parked on Wessenden Head Road in the middle of Storm Babet, with visibility down to about 10ft, lashing wind and soaking rain, in jeans, and just went for it. Not a particularly sensible idea, as the ground was saturated and incredibly muddy, and the pillar seemed further than the map suggested, away across several dips and rises in the moorland. We finally reached it and bailed as fast as our wellies could manage it and sought refuge by the smoky fire in The Nook, Holmfirth. The pillar was in good nick but had a replacement cap and a bit of graffiti on it - and I can't say a word on the views...

I love everything about it from the location around the boulders, to the amazing 360 views. I'd like to revisit on a fine summers evening.

Nice clear day with great views. I noticed Stonestreaker thought that the rocking stone had recently been unseated. Found this on the web... It could be found high up in the middle of the moors above Brow Grains by the Wicken Stones, nearly 1400 feet above sea level, heading towards West Nab, and had lived here, safely, for untold thousands of years. But then, on Whitsun Monday morning in either 1827 or 1828, there came, wrote Joseph Hughes (1866), “some half-dozen masons (who) planned and executed the work of destruction for a frolic. They first endeavoured to accomplish it by blasting it with gunpowder and, on the failure of this scheme, they fetched tools from Deer Hill, with which they drilled a hole and then wedged it, when the stone fell with a tremendous crash, hardly allowing the man on its summit who was drawing in the wedge to escape without injury.” ""PITY SHOULD HAVE CRUSHED HIM"
