easy visit being so close to gate and road. decided to have a pause from cycling and another visit in passing. might have logged the first 100 mile ride of the year but didn't make an accurate note of the starting mileage! however, warm enough to take off leg-warmers in afternoon for 2nd day of year in shorts.

Parked in layby next to where the trig is, and viewed from over the fence. Trig is lying on its side in the hedge. no. 3 of 10 today

Second visit though passed it many times. First visit (July, 2004) I noticed trig in field between apex of roads, reaching it from convenient lay-by on B5314 near gate. This time stopped in gate entrance and, with the leaves off the hawthorn, saw it recumbent under hedge.

re-visit. First of two pillar target for the day. It was still standing at the time of my first logged visit. Now lying under hedge right in corner at A41 and B5314 junction, and probably safe from disposal. Easy access through adjacent double metal gates.

Parked on roadside and over gate into field. What a sorry site, the poor trig dumped under the hedge lying on its side. Glad we don’t see too many like this.

Sad Trig sinking in the hedgerow at the top of the field by gate. Right next to the busy road junction. Covered in twigs / hedge and sinking. Only so much of the spider visible. One of five trigs found on today's trig hunting adventure!

Third difficult trig of the day. The field is beautifully planted with winter barley but the trig is stuffed in the hedge.

At some point a farmer has removed the pillar and dumped it under the hedge at the road junction. Sad, when most landowners respect these pillars. The hedge had to be cut back today to get access. Bracket and spider in good condition.

Harsh. forlorn and partially buried under a thorny hedge. if i was a strong man id have picked him up and took him home. as it was i just pruned the hedge back so those without secateurs can at least get near. shame. theres so many spots this fella could be repositioned.

A nice easy one, with handy grass verge you can quickly park on and bag. (It sits on its side on the hedgy corner twixt field and road). View all around isn't bad, although I would recommend bringing some cutters if viewing in summer - was a bit of a game to get to the flush bracket through the hedge (I still have the scars).

It is a tragedy the way this pillar has been treated. My last visit In SEPT 2010 had it at an angle after the farmer has clearly hit it. It now lies injured in the hedgerow and cast aside. I would like to think it could be stood up and securely sited on the road side of the hedge and be classed as moved. Come on OS how about it?

I knew from previous logs that this pillar had been dumped in the hedge - but there was a lot of hedge to search! Fortunately, despite the now dense undergrowth, I found the pillar very quickly. There is a large, inviting pull-in, right at the junction, which you will find is next to where the pillar has been deposited. It is now situated (deep in the hedge) at: SJ 77935 13272 (N52 42.999 W002 19.684)

New location Convenient pull-in, at the junction with the A41.

Was lucky to find this one as the pillar has now been toppled and moved. It’s been dumped in the hedge on the inside point of the field where Plough Bank meets the A41 ... and pretty recently judging by the fresh tractor tracks on the grass leading up to the dumping point. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LO2QwNX8LPM

I must have passed this trig point many times as a young boy on our way to north Wales on family holidays without ever seeing it. The pillar is so clear on the skyline as you approach along to B5314 towards the junction with the A41. Left bike on verge and nipped over fence to pillar. Field newly planted with germinated cereal shoots showing. Took care to retrace my steps over approach prints. Views good south.

Red paint is still visible. The angle is rakish!©sven

Quite a white-painted pillar in the middle of a winter cereal field just off the A41. Original plug with deeply-indented letters. N sighthole open, the others closed. Holes under hooks infilled. Concrete base exposed by about 2 - 4" all round. Moderate agricultural views.

Very visble from the A41. Waited for a while for this one, due to crops, but the field had now just been grazed, so an easy visit
