Rather soggy plodge from the road. Path shown on the map indistinct to point of being non existent. Almost stepped on not one but two hares. Terrific views of the Dirringtons and beyond. Useful viewfinder just down the road at a cattle grid by 414 point

Very boggy walk through heather. Some damage to the top of the trig purely due to weathering. Ingress of litchen and fungi. The trig is very green. Flushed out a few grouse on the way.

Although clearly signed and well used to north of the Gifford - Duns road there appears to be no track to the south up to the pillar despite being shown on the Landranger. Quite a damp slog despite the short distance from the road.

Crumbling at the top. The walk to the road was rougher than the 10km across the moors which preceded it. Getting in some Lammermuir days before the catastrophic Fallago Rig power station is finally erected but have already encountered wind farm related issues. I was followed for 1km nearby by a keeper anxious that I stick to the road. Part of his beef was that wind farms attract tourists and that they might follow me! Idiot logic, but it looks like after a few years peace and quiet it is back to goml dodging in the Lammermuir Hills again. If we are to have English access can we also have English protection of the landscape? Worst of both worlds.

Berwickshire. This seemed further from the road than the map indicated but this was probably due to the rough going and lack of mapped path. The damage is to the top. Plug with deeply indented lettering.

Pillar completed 10th December 1951. Tertiary station NT86/T29 in the Berwick secondary block. Computed in 1953, last maintained by the OS in July 1971. Like many pillar stations in secondary block NT86 this pillar was never levelled. By 2008, this pillar is starting to suffer frost damage near the top which is now missing some concrete. The spider retains original OS centre cap with deep indented lettering. RHS sight hole open, others plugged. Flush bracket faces 357, north. Short walk from the public road over very rough grass. The mapped path no longer exists. Views include Sayers Law, Spartleton and Dirrington Great Law. Revisited and photographed 26/04/2008, GRP.

Corner gone, and Jack Frost has started work elsewhere. Intact metalwork. Althgough near road, its real moorland country with some tough going. Still blowing a hooly. Height not listed on 1:50 000 map. Looks like two trigging raids on Berwickshire today.
