Good view. Most of public footpaths are not accessible to the trig, very overgrown and boggy, forest land. Parked at tosside Community Park Car and walked up Gibson forest cycle paths to access the trig. Nice views from at the top

Parked in Tosside village carpark and walked up forest path . Then made mistake of following right of way overgrown and very boggy. Great views from trig continued on along public footpaths to bag Tosside on way back .

Great viewpoint. Approached from Tosside. The direct way is wet++. In the forest ignore the rights of way....they are mostly overgrown.

Parked on the unfenced road by the gate. Easy route to the trig via Whelpstone Lodge which is currently being renovated. Had to use our imagination for the views, as this was the first properly wet day of September, but the crag is in a commanding position and worth a visit!

8.5 m circular from Tosside including Tosside trig. Not the best paths around Bowland forest, rather boggy and on existent by the brook back round. Gorgeous clear and sunny day though.

Parked by the first gate on the road up from Rathmell. Very enjoyable little ramble past the deserted Whelpstone Lodge, onto moorland leading to a boulder strewn crag with great views over Gisburn Forest. Nothing to see to the east today due to thick cloud in that direction. Enjoyed the fact that although this walk had it's roots in Yorkshire; the final crowning top is Lancastrian.

Don't make the mistake of following the footpaths on the map, they mostly just disappear in forests and bogs. Followed logging track and MTB trails in the end. Way easier.

Whelpstone Crag. Walked from Gisburn Hub car park. 3.7m along the red cycle route path which goes up by the cafe. 3m to a bridge. Path goes up through the forest, then right at the top through grass and onto the forest cycle track to the summit. Returned down the rocky forest cycle track. No cyclists but we saw a deer on the track.

After yesterday's marathon day out (mileage and time) to include 5 pillars on the Fylde, a shorter day planned after recovering at Slaidburn YHA. A steep but well surfaced lane to Whelpstone Lodge. Several huge new barns, but the traditional stone farmhouse is uninhabited. Pleasant stroll up to the pillar, which is in sight almost from the farm. Unexpectedly, there is a small plateau top and 360 views.

Parked in Tosside and decided to go via track to Heath Farm then footpath north but this path is very difficult to find on the ground. Had to backtrack onto forest roads and use one of the cycle routes towards the crags. Nice views all directions.

Really liked this one. Parked at Whelpstone Lodge for a short, steady walk up to the crag. Great views from here, very open spot with a good view of Gisburn Forest. Last Lancashire pillar.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 1st July 1949 costing £25.9s.2d. Computed as secondary triangulation station SD96/20 within the Skipton block during 1951. Levelled for height in 1953. Last maintained by the OS in May 1976. SITE VISIT: Overall approach from ENE. Parked to north side of Old Oliver Lane at SD772596 just east of where the lane becomes walled. Warning, do not attempt to drive west of here unless you have a high wheelbase, the remainder of the metalled road is walled on both sides and there is nowhere to turn without going beyond the final gate where I nearly took the sump out of my car. From SD772596, followed mapped route via Whelpstone Lodge onto RoW network which leads towards Holden Moor, short steep climb to summit thereafter. Rocky outcrop on open grazing top. Pillar in good condition. Replacement plastic top cap fitted into spider by Jon Rouse, 30/01/2000. Flush bracket faces east, ~95°. All four sight holes open, pillar bolt photographed. Full 360° panoramic view includes Ingleborough, Pen-y-Ghent and Pendle Hill. Poor GPS reception at time of visit. Returned to find my car being licked dirty by cattle from which it still bears some of the scratches.

Walked in from road to ENE with Martin Richardson and Charles Everett to bag this craggy trig and its twin top. Also met work colleague Clare Wild who was out for a fell run. This is a twin topped TuMP and a P67 hill called Holden Moor.

Clear windy day. Great views inc Yorkshire. Remote at trig but busier if coming up from gisburn Forrest. Paths through gisburn Forrest difficult to follow due to ever changing Forrest routes and crossover of cycling paths. Worth the maze!

Walked up from Tosside - a 4 mile return walk the latter of which was very boggy after heavy mid-week rain. Great views once you get there - 360 degrees and it was very clear so the Lake District peaks were visible. Trig in good condition with plastic plug. A pretty remote place even though height wise not that much (1300 ft). The pub at Tosside (Dog & Partridge) is only open Fri-Sun and these days is geared up toward mountain bikers but worth calling in if the weather is ok as there are seats outside.

Liked this summit the trig is set on rocky knoll, reminded me of lake district,really nasty gale blowing me off my feet nearly.Trig in vgc plastic plug great views to stocks forrest and trough of bowland.

On access land, nice view in every direction - quite a woody area. Nearer to Settle than Barnoldswick. Done on a long hike from Long Preston to Hellifield. No cars, on foot.
