Under the assumption that Sunday was a non red flag flying day on the Feldom & Bellerby MOD ranges, I undertook the two hour drive from Manchester in a hope of 'bagging' four North Yorkshire trigs...How Tallon was easy enough but not so straight forward with Feldom Rigg. The distant sound of gunfire had been apparent from How Tallon & upon arriving at Feldom my fears were realised as red flags were indeed in flight. A ranger, marshall, MOD bod or whatever turned up on us parking at GR 091 047 instructing that access to the Feldom range was a no-go 365 days period other than thro' special arrangement. Bitterly disappointed & dis-heartend we re-located to Helwith Road/Green Lane to 'knock-off Skelton Moor & that done re-located again to find out if Whit Fell was 'do-able'. At Feldom we had been informed that likewise Whit Fell was non-attainable...No red flags flew, no vehicles or personnel were about & so off I trotted, merrily, casually & seemingly un-bothered, around the barrier, along the access road, past shuttered-up & padlocked kiosks & uphill along the fence un-challenged to reach the trig, 'proud as punch', 'happy as Larry' & smug as a 'butchers dog' wit a stolen string of sausages!

This is not a trig tig log, it's an info file really. This trig is on Ministry Of Defence land and surrounded by wall/fencing & red warning flags. There's not just firing ranges but a large area of exercise land and although on the numerous occasions I've passed it, it seems seldom used, who knows what the MOD are doing there? The trigs clearly visible from the nearby road but it'd be a brave or foolhardy person to chance the 2/3rds of a mile into the danger area to tig the trig (and back). I note the logs - and I have NOT visited the trig - but if I were to brave/chance the trig I'd make sure I had a photo as proof!
