Last hill on a circuit around the Mosspeeble valley. Also found FB S7372 on barn at Mosspeeble Farm, mentioned by Clochandighter. Asked at farm, showed them a photo of a FB: the lady of the house knew what I was looking for, showed me where it was.

White Hill The trigpoint with lots of tiny cracks. All sight holes open.
White Hill The FB.
White Hill OS cap with raised letters.
FB 7372 at Mosspeeble farm. On barn at NY 38252 93460. GPS device gave 144m height.

From the lay-by on the A7 down the hill to Mosspeeble Farm, just after the farm the track splits into 3, took the middle (roughest) track up the hill. After about 300 metres there is a track off to the right which takes you round the side of the hill to the pillar. Alternatively continue on the track and take the steeper quad bike track alongside the fence. Both track and quad track are visible from the A7 although not shown on OS maps. Picked up the flush bracket on the Mosspeeble outhouse on the way back. Residents very friendly.

Pillar has horizontal crack towards top but is otherwise in good condition. Spider retains OS centre plug with raised weathered large narrow letters. All four sight holes open, pillar bolt viewable. Flush bracket faces SW ~238. Tertiary station in Block NY29, Lockerbie. No record of pillar completion date, but probably November 1957. Computed and levelled, 1959, last maintained 1977. Former grazing summit, slopes recently planted with deciduous saplings. Access via track passing Mosspeeble where flush bracket S7372 is affixed to an outbuilding. A new "still to be mapped" track forges NE up White Hill from the farm. Sections of the now superfluous boundary fences have recently been removed. Easy parking in official layby on east side of A7, just south of farm entrance. Cloud down on day, no view observed. Photographed 13/10/2007, GRP.
