Walked uphill from the west onto ramparts of Uffington Castle. Pillar painted white stands out on east side of the Castle, but on the outer ramparts, so down the trench and up the other side. Well maintained and with attractive paving around the base. Stunning views all round. Unusual FB number without S prefix. Has OS plaque in place. Quite a busy spot, walkers coming and going from all directions. Noted as Oxfordshire county top, having read other logs. Also a passive Station. To west of Castle on lower ground is a topograph which indicates places to north of the hill. The White Horse is difficult to see from the ground although its legs and general shape are visible on the north west of the hill on the descent by road.

---(2020-07-17, 13:55:00)--- SU 30086 86382 2987 Today was Day 5 of my walk along the Ridgeway National Trail from Overton Hill to Ivinghoe Beacon, this time between Ridgeway Farm above Bishopstone and beyond Uffington Castle. Much of this section was new to me and I enjoyed a pleasant walk along an often busy path. Not for the first time on this trail, I was surprised at how busy the path was: I don't know if that's because of the present circumstances - many people not being at work - or if it's just the nature of the Ridgeway. Either way, I wish others would make some attempt at social distancing. I've visited this trig previously but it was a long time ago before I knew about GPS, trigpointing, and caching, and before I knew how pleasurable walking in the countryside is. For the second time, then, I explored this historic area and enjoyed the great views.

This was the 12th trig of a lovely long weekend break in Ronnie the Motorhome, bagged on the way home to Exeter, and what a corker, with stupendous views! I'd been here before, sometime in 1994 when working at The Defence Academy (then the Royal Military College of Science), but could find no notes. It was my 29th trig this year, marking the 2nd best start to a year's trig-bagging since I started this hobby - retirement is going well!
