Make sure you let the farmer know you're there - otherwise they'll chase you on a quad & shout at you! My bad, situation diffused. Trig is actually private - after talking to them they bought it & own it so don;t really like us trig baggers on their land as a result!

Walked through the castle grounds and carried straight on up the footpath through the woods along the fence until reaching the fence line of the trig field. Hop over the fence and follow the hedge down to the trig. Lovely path through the woods. Incidentally trig is most visible from the eastern side

Regretting not taking secateurs but able to hand break away enough of the hawthorn and scrape away the gubbins to reveal original OS cap. On plinth on East Side of hedge and FB facing eat into field too. High point of HuMP 2m higher at other end of grassy field. Cows, calves and the Bull all in the field. The bull was the last one to run away as I walked towards him. They all then trotted after me as I walked to the high point other end of field... But all still Fearty.

Re-visit of my closest pillar to home. Good circular walk , Lots of logging work in the Wigmore Rolls. Best access is still from the castle and into the wood, follow distinct path along fenceline until adjacent to pillar. Condition unchanged. Just read other logs ... Our penultimate HuMP in Herefordshire (final one, Gatley Hill, done an hour later but no trig there). Pleasant walk up through Wigmore Castle after parking in castle car park. Some vocal locals (Herefordshire cattle) in summit field - more inqisitve that malign, although they need watching! Pillar, on raised concrete plinth, in good condition on field boundary, partially buried in hedgerow behind partly broken down wire fence; cut away some encroaching thorn. Original cap in place, deeply indented lettering; rear sight hole only open. Looks like normally good views S & E, but restricted by valley mist today; other directions obscured more permanently by hedge line and trees.
