Seventh trig of the day, and the only one which was actively a joy to bag. Easily reached; good condition; stunning views. From the stile at the back of the car park to the north east, though, a maze of paths lead across the violently undulating topography atop the edge of the hill. With chalky outcrops, ridgetop paths, clumps of bushes, and meadow flowers and butterflies galore, it's a very beautiful place to be.

Turned east off the B3092 about half a mile north of the turning for Stourhead. East on Long Lane to car park, bit uneven. On foot uphill east, first tumuli mounds then bear south east. About five or six hundred meters to pillar, visible from a distance so clear where to aim for. Steady drizzle at the time. Didn’t see another soul. Probably lovely views on a clear day. Spider and cap in place. Wondered about driving further up the lane, perhaps in the summer when it is dry but noticed massive puddles on it at the time so probably just as well to have walked from the car park.
