Toiling up this hill from the bottom after a long walk this morning and a good lunch, I decided my hobby in my next life would not involve hill tops eg train spotting instead! But worth the effort - good views N and S (obscured by trees E and W), asphalt cap, E s/hole open, otherwise vgc. Also an interesting milepost en route - complete with cut bench mark.

Drove up on the byway to within 20m of the pillar. Track in good condition, a little rough but dry and hard with -5degC of frost on a clear and wonderful morning. Pillar in good condition; 1 sight hole open, others sealed; cap missing, replaced with asphalt plug. Located on the northern escarpment of Cranborne Chase, the views to N and S are quite stunning, E & W partially obscured by woodland. Impressive long barrow 150m to SW.
