Eerily quiet, nicely trimmed but empty golf course on a cracking June evening, not a golfer to be seen (like something out of Day of the Triffids). Parked at the end of the track to the east of the village next to a workshop compound (again no one around) and a short walk across a couple of greens to the highest point. Nice 360 views including great views of Bass Rock.

Walked up from village over very old stile just behind the building that looks like the village hall. This then follows a uphill track to a gate and onto the golf course. Then head directly up to Trig on highest point.

Still painted white. Golf course deserted. Good condition and intact, but paint on brasswork. Went up steeply from the south, presence of golf course betrayed by lost balls in the gorse (deposited on the 15th tee as swag for the next bunch of rough worriers.) Wind light - but within minutes a gale was going.

The East Lothian hamlet of Whitekirk is 3 miles SE of the town of North Berwick. Once a grazing top, this is now a golf course and the trig pillar is in the rough. Access is easiest from the track to the west then crossing the course. The pillar has been painted in recent years and is in very good condition. The spider retains its OS plug with deep stamped font. The flush bracket faces northeast. Views to Doon Hill, Cocklaw Hill, Deuchrie Dod, Traprain Law, Lammer Law, Skid Hill, Arthurs Seat, North Berwick Law and Bass Rock. Weather sunny but hazy. GRP 16/08/03.

Worked on the farm that was here before the golf course arrived. Used to come down every weekend in winter to help my Grandad feed the cattle and my treat was to get to drive the Suburu (no not an Impreza) over the hills . Passed by the trig o so many times! Also played golf here. Tough course on a windy day with some nice holes.
