Pulled into a small layby on a bend. The trig is a stones throw away in the wood. There is a very low cut through in the hedge, but this was full of boggy water under foot and you can’t tell how deep it is and after getting my feet wet decided to go round the side and pushed through the hedge ripping my hair out at the root but wasn’t letting it go . Got through and bagged the trig once through the hedge. Lots of water and rubbish around. Probably a lot better and dryer in the summer, although I imagine even more hedge growth.

Heading south and east from Gainsborough along Heapham Road, pulled over near right hand bend in road. Higher ground was a clue. Bit of a fly tipping corner, pretty disgusting. Needed a bit more detail to help locate pillar than the OS Landranger. It’s actually 10 metres north of the corner hidden by overgrown by thick bushes, although it looks as if access has been achieved by someone taking a chainsaw to cut a way through to the pillar. However, it looks a bit like a camp or squat, felt as if I needed a bath afterwards. Surprisingly the pillar is in good condition with spider and cap in place. Otherwise would have marked it lower. No views now but probably good before it became overgrown.

One of six trigs bagged in the Gainsborough area. This one is sited just off the road on a bend where it is possible to park just off the road. An unremarkable area used by less sociable individuals to dump rubbish. If you want to find this pillar you will have to be fairly determined. Although very close to the road it is in the middle of a very small area of woodland and hidden from view. Much of woodland is Hawthorn etc with a profusion of nettles etc. I figure this pillar would be easier to see and access in the winter. I persisted and got through the growth to access the pillar.

(238) Parked up as Heapham road takes a turn to the right. A farm worker was in the field, so made enquiries about the trigpoint. He said despite working here for a good few years, he'd never seen the pillar in question before. At that point the heavens opened, so I quickly retired to my car to wait it out, and to double check I was actually in the right place. Deciding to quickly check the hedge before moving on, revealed that I was indeed in the right place. Access, though not totally easy, was surprisingly straight forward. I had imagined, reading previous logs, that this one would be difficult. And once you get closer to the pillar, there is more room to manoeuvre. If a relatively clear route to this pillar is down to a member on here, then thank you. As to the Pillar itself - all appears good. Pillar history: Built on the 17th of October 1948, at a cost of £9 6s 4d. Last maintained by the OS in October of 1980.
