Parked at the entrance to the res. Over the gate and up to the wall, over this and to the trig. Not so bad with the nettles.

Parked up at the entrance to the reservoir and hopped over the gate. Followed the road around and then took some steps onto the top of it. Exactly the same as "madaddo" a couple of years back looked around the eastern side as that is how it appears on the map. Likewise, spotted it when I went back on the top of the reservoir to get a better view. Also saw a fox running towards the pillar. Spotting it was one thing, getting to it was, for the third time today, a challenge with nettles and brambles. The wall was too high to go over so I climbed over the fence to the left. Horrible scramble up the overgrown bank. Views should have been better. My third rubbish bag on the bounce.......

Hunted to the E of the current (covered) reservoir but couldn’t find it. Thought I’d do a circuit of it just to make sure when I unexpectedly spotted it over the fence and in the field to the W. Had thought I was going to have to log a DNF

Cycling day out. Pillar has open spider & a few thin cracks on top face. Quite good views - Raby Castle to the N & what looks like Great Knipe to the W (cannot be too sure as distant views in greyness).

What a difference to 3 reservoirs recently visited in Lancashire! Here, one standard galvanised steel field gate and then a walk up the access road on to the top, there, heavy duty steel security fence topped with 5 strand electric fence and all the perimeter covered by cameras! The top of the reservoir is neatly mown grass, but the trig is over a low wall in a very unkempt area of weeds. it is not visible from the road.

Out for a days trigging with Carole and this was our last and most difficult. Much work going on at the site so driving up the open drive was no problem. However, upon asking if we could access the site to go to the pillar we found that it was 'a hardhat site' and no way could we proceed. On asking if we could find a way to it without entering the workings did not get a definite 'no'. So we climbed a gate to the west and made our way to the top of the western most covered reservoir and lo and behold there was the pillar. The only problem with the pillar is that the plug is long gone and therefore th innards are open to the elements. For future visitors the best way will still be to go up the waterworks drive but where it goes sharp right go straight ahead through or over the wooden gate and then just climb the embankment.

On top of westmost covered water cistern, east side. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces 101° east. Presumed vented through sight hole on FB face which is buried, other three plugged. Take care when leaving, the resr entrance is on a blind bend, fast traffic on the A67 but there is a wide angle mirror on a pole opposite, to assist.

Straightforward access. All reservoir trigs should be like this. Plug missing, FB a bit overgrown, nice views to S across the valley.
