Quite superb views from trig point, which we reached after plod along Cleveland Way, having set out from Clay Bank. We had intended to visit trig early in walk, but road to Lordstones was closed, as it is just a short steep climb from Lordstones just below Carlton Moor. So our route was changed as we took in many highlights en route including Hasty Bank and the Wainstones before, returning having bagged the trig, although we didn't do as much climbing on the return to our car.

Bagged the intended 3 morning pillars, then the 3 afternoon possibles, and reached this as my 7th of the day on a ride from Langdon Beck YHA (near High Force Waterfall) to Helmsley YHA. Just managed to pedal all the way up from Carlton using bottom gear and out of the saddle. A short section of track before a paved path all the way to the summit. Sadly, the day has remained overcast and grey so only the outlook was not at its best. I could make out the industrial areas around Tees Mouth, but not as far as the Pennines. However, sat for a while at the top enjoying what could be seen and replenishing the calories with a big Danish pastry!
