WBF is a superb viewpoint and has a real air of mistique about it. I doubt anyone would argue though that the old top at the cairns guarding the edge above Mallerstang is the best spot up here.

Walked up from Hazelgill after a tedious drive in thick fog things looked bleak until going under the Settle Carlisle railway and emerging into a bright crisp morning looking back the fog could be seen trundling north along Mallistang and pouring into the Eden Valley which was a wide ocean of fog from the north Pennies over to the Lakeland fells wonderful sight, ahead the Nab and White Walls were coated red in the early morning sun,I followed the path up High Dolphinsty and on to the Nab where more wonderful views unfolded the Howgills look eerie emerging out of the fog and over the Howgills another ocean of fog until the high Lakeland fells the Scafell Massif and great gable could easily be made out at a distance of 35 miles, the walking was firm due to the frost its the first time I have had dry boots this month ! Had coffee at the trig and marvelled at the views with the only other walker I met we both agreed the sights where the best Christmas present we could have hoped for all be it a day early, had a quick look over the edge at Sand tarn then over the plateau to the well built cairns or standards not as grand as the ones on nine Standards rigg but well worth a look,a Christmas eve I will never forget, sorry for going on about it but it was one of those magical days that remind you what its all about.

Quite a high score as it's a bit different from the run of the mill trig point with its setting and cosy wee wall around it. Visited it while thinking of places to place my geocache, the bizarrely named 'Wild Boar Fell' cache.
