HISTORY: Pillar built in June 1948 costing 13.8s.0d. Computed as secondary triangulation station SD74/19 within the Blackburn block during 1948. Levelled for height in 1956. Last maintained by the OS in October 1980. SITE VISIT: Approached from southwest. Parked at SD701322 by SE side of road almost opposite farm entrance. Followed mapped RoW to high point then beeline northeast to top. Freshly repainted white pillar in immaculate condition. A barbed wire cordon is in place around the pillar to keep the cattle at a respectable distance - no obstacle to humans. A plate on the rear of the pillar exclaims that it was restored in 2005 by Wilpshire Parish Council. Spider centre contains a grey plastic cap, fitted 14/05/2000 by JWR. Flush bracket faces SSE, ~151. All sight holes open, innards filled with debris. Full 360 panoramic view.
