(2782) Parked near to the top of the PRoW. Bagging the BM on Swingate Farm as I went. Dogs loose in Windmill Farm, but could see activity closeby, so after a bit I was able to grab their attention. Explained about wishing to visit the pillar, and they was happy to escort me to it. Would have been a bit of a struggle to find it otherwise I think. All in very good condition and sporting its original centre cap - with lightly indented lettering. A nice one to bag thanks to the friendly and accommodating farmers. Pillar history: Built on the 27th of May 1939, at a cost of £3 13s 6d. Last maintained by the OS in January of 1983.

Escorted by the farmer and his sons and two Alsatians and a Jack Russell to the trig very obliging. Trig is located in a compound with many dogs in kennels surrounding it. Also a Tump summit walked out to the disappointing Notts top by the motorway as well.

Visited after a short walk uphill from Kimberley as part of a 9 mile circular stroll around Strelley Cossall and Babbington - proper DH Lawrence country. Escorted to the pillar by the Farmers son - plenty of loose dogs in the main yard and some big dogs in cages in the rear paddock where the pillar is located. Farmers son was very friendly and happy to escort us - not advisable to try and locate without permission or a guide. Pillar is in good condition , same can’t be said for the farm

Same as the comment below. A escort is required for this one. As I walked up to the farm a grabbed the atension of the guy driving a tractor moving sileage around. I asked him about the trig pillr on the farm and to my survprise he stopped what he was doing and offer to take me there! I tried to refuse saying I could make my own way, but he insisted. I when I got there I could see why, The pillar was in a locked compound, luckily the dogs weren't running free but they were barking!

This one requires an escort and happened to catch the friendly farmer fixing a bearing on his tractor to escort me. It's not an easy one to bag by trespass due to a number of dogs running free and it's well esconced within ramshackle farm buildings, but farmer is ok and access not an issue. An original centre cap is retained, indented lettering; LHS sight hole open, others not noted. No views.

First of 8 on a cycle ride W of Nottingham. Asked at farm and permission readily given, taken to trig in a compound (hard to believe it was an orcahrd) by chatty young lad. Yes, there was a mass of clutter, but the trig is there, in good condition, and all I spoke to were friendly and helpful, even the bunch of dogs, one of which gave my knees a thorough licking. Some views. On to Awsworth.

Parked at the end of Swingate and walked along the Robin Hood Way and on to the farm. Friendly farmer showed me a path up alongside the farmhouse where I was met by an assortment of small but excitable dogs who escorted me to the not immediately visible trig point. The trig is relatively clear of the surrounding assortment of bits and pieces. I noticed that outside the opposite building, there was a cage of ferrets which the farmer said were owned by his son. No geese today but as others have noted, not a place to hang around. Off to Awsworth now for an even odder trig!
