Parked near the Church at Kirkbank and took the well-worn route to the trig. Some numpty has inscribed the name of a supermarket into the spider. What a difference a few days makes - all the snow present when Paulus66 visited had gone.

After several years of driving past on the way to stay in Ravenglass, I finally walked up Black Combe. Parked on the edge of Silecroft village and walked up the distinct path - steep in its early parts but eases off higher up. A howling easterly wind at the top and some snow. Views not as good as hoped (hence the 8) as quite hazy. Trig in generally good condition.

Revisit for photographs and GPS reading. Parked in layby, NE side of road, Whitbeck, outside church at SD119839. Had planned to follow mapped non RoW path, asked farmer who redirected us via an overgrown route leaving the A595 from SD121836. Friendly enough but clearly GOML regarding non-Access Land. Polite enquiries don't always pay off! Roughed it up through ferns until picking up the mapped path network which leads all the way to the summit. Pillar in fair condition, damage to top but sporting a fresh coat of paint. Aluminium GPS plate seems to have done the disappearing act. Spider filled with concrete. Flush bracket faces WSW, 257. Vented through NE sight hole. Full 360 panoramic view between bouts of fog.

Wanted to visit this hill for many years, at last make the trek over. Looks like a popular day for trig baggers and understandably too. Afraid to say it was all clear with a grey plume settling in from the sea at about 3pm. Snowdonia to Merrick, from the lowest "Marilyns" Arnside, Billinge to Sca Fell. Great walk from the minor road and track to Swinside. Best walk in England of the year???

Oh look there's Ingleborough - said for perhaps the hundredth time - wonderful place set aside from everywhere else

Worth a walk East of the trig to peer into the Combe. Spent most of an excellent week on various Lakeland summits looking across at this top.
