The pillar is sited next to the remains of a dry stone wall on the edge of grassy common land on a flat topped hill to the north east of Cheltenham. It was easily reached from the nearby car park next to the masts. The trig has a Passive Station plate and FB S1529 but its spider lacks a cap or plug. The hazy outline of rolling hills could be made out in the early evening haze to the east and south and the site looks over the expanse of Cleeve Common to the north. The common was a very pleasant location for an evening stroll. It was full of birdsong and there is a good view over Cheltenham near the masts. The grassland of the common is a SSSI and the area is within the Cotswold AONB.

On edge of dry-stone wall about 300 yards from the car park at the end of the dead-end lane. The central plug is missing but otherwise it's OK. The base stands just proud of the grass - it's on the edge of a huge pasture field with newly-sheared sheep. Traces of paint left on all four faces. There is an extensive repair to one top corner. There are distant views in all directions but the flat nature of the surrounding land means the views are all distant. Such a pity about the radio/phone masts by the car park which ruin the ambiance of the place. It has an OS anti-vandalism plate on the N face.
