My absolute favourite of the three trigs bagged this holiday week. Walked from Hartington (easy parking, lovely village) up Beresford Dale crossing and re-crossing the lovely Dove. The trig is located on NT access land, but i found "access" barred by a barbed wire fence meaning me and my dad had to walk to the end of the minor road until we found a small permissive access plaque on a gate near The Whim. The gate was padlocked so we had to climb over it. A short steep climb lead to another locked gate which had to be climbed over. So much for access land. But this is why I loved this trig! Tricky to get to, unpopulated and a truly amazing viewpoint. I truly recommend this one.

Parked at the end of Beresford Lane, meanly avoiding the parking charges at the farm, then via a bridge over the raging Dove. Hate to think what the Stepping Stones are like just now. Up to Reynards Lane where, for a beautiful fleeting moment - the smell of hops! Ahhhh! Foe Access Land, the hill itself is difficult to get onto, and a steep climb once you do. Pleasant enough at the top though. Brief detour to take in the caves on the way back. Interesting and need exploring more when I'm equipped with more than the Flashlight App on my phone!

Plastic plug. Public. Access Land [NT]. Peak District National Park. The adjoining part of the hill, to the north, has permissive access, so providing more options for an ascent from the road on the west side. The slopes are amazingly steep, as they tend to be in this area where the Derbyshire Dales meet the Staffordshire Moorlands.

Another steep climb up from Wolfscote Grange the last of a three trigpoint walk from Hartington. Was expecting to see the Whim Brewery at the Grange it was shown on Google Maps but it must have been relocated. Great views retraced my steps down the hill then along Beresford Dale. Could see the three trigpoints Id visited, Bank Top, Ecton Hill and Wolfscote Hill as I returned to Hartington. Doing a bit more investigation I see that the brewery is further down the lane at Whim Farm. Google streetview takes you right into the brewery yard.
