(347) We visited en route to a Re-Genesis gig in Holmfirth on an apocalytic night as Storm Babet raged; we did as most do and parked up on Wolfstones Road and then nipped up the permissive path to the pillar. This approach to access by the landowner here should be applauded, by the way. The pillar commands fine views, and is in generally good condition except for a replacement cap and the addition of a stone seating ring to commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, which is now slightly wonky. We retreated hastily in the wind and rain.

1st of 2 for today. Starting from Meltham centre I followed various paths through Windy Bank Wood, past Meltham Mills Reservoir then along Wood Nook Lane and Knoll Lane. Arrived at the trig from Wolfstones Road. Despite not being a monarchist at all, I don't mind the addition of the Diamond Jubilee wraparound. Variety is the spice of life after all. Very pleased with this visit. Onwards past the memorial and into the woods. Rest in Peace Little Alfie. x

Reached this one during a 14 mile sponsored walk starting from the Pickled Pheasant in Holmbridge. Arrived just as a sleety rain shower arrived, so didn't hang around, but the sun was soon out, so quickly dried out.

One of three pillars bagged during a isit to Holmfirth. This one provides very good scenic views of the surrounding area. It is in good condition though the original spider is missing. The diamond jubilee ring is still present along with its compass bearings engraved on top.

Loved this one. Nice dry track from the road, pillar set up just above an area of heather and greenery and pleasing views of interesting farmland down to Upperthong. Not sure about the Jubilee collar.

Circular walk from Meltham via West Nab, Wessenden Head, Digley Reservoir, and Upperthong. Excellent spot for lunch today with a pleasant breeze. on a hot day. There is a east - west path running from the road at Wolfstones Heights Farm through the woods to the Wilshaw Mill Road/Bradshaw Road crossroads.

My first two pillars of 2021, and despite doing a bit in this area, I haven't visited either of them before. A circular walk from Digley Reservoir through two different landscapes. This one was no snow, lots of old mill paths and stiles to arrive at this well cared for pillar on Thong Moor. It is not on open access nor have PRoWs, but the landowners supplied stiles, paths and a sheltered seating/patio area. Nice touch and welcoming. The two today are for the other trigpointing folk on this site, especially those who submit commentary, be it useful, interesting, historical or just makes me chuckle.

Lovely well kept area with great views. Large new signs inform access is permissible (from several different points) though no right of way exists. Diamond Jubilee collar is good repurposing. Check out the very active duck pond in the private garden at the road junction SSW

2of2 Walking round Holmfirth with my mates Tracker Dog and Rubber Ball. Trig is easily spotted and accessed on permissive path, as of March 2019 according to a sign at the start of the lane to it. Seat around the trig us not as comfy as it looks but the views are good.

Access up the track from the East off Wolfstones Rd. Lovely little spot and a nice touch with the Jubilee Millstone placed over the pillar. Spent a few good minutes here taking in the views and trying to locate previously visited trigs. Pillar top section has newish coat of white paint. Plug removed and capped otherwise all metal work intact. liked this one.

Oh dear, what has this poor pillar been yoked with! Diamond Jubilee madness - surely a better way to do this than wreck a trig pillar - whatever! Parked at junction of roads due S. The pilar is in tact despite the 'thing'. Composite top cap replacement; front sight hole open. Extensive views to surrounding snow-capped fells. Next.

Bagged during "The Two Thongs Challenge ( (c) Ron Plasma 2017)", a gruelling 3 mile hike which starts and ends in The Clothiers Arms in Netherthong. (Luckily there is a pub half way in Upperthong.) Can be completed in 90 minutes if you avoid Totties! Great fun.

A nostalgic return visit. This was my local trig when I was growing up and was visited many times then. Back in Holmfirth with junior Cipollini for the Tour de France and as we were parked on this side of the Holme valley I took the opportunity to pay my respects after cheering on Froomy et al. Lovely viewpoint as ever, but horrible commemorative addition to the trig. Needless desecration! (Photos to follow eventually)

This trig has been made into a seat. It's a bit skew-whiff, but a nice idea for a perch, and a good spot to enjoy the view- Emley Moor one way, Holme Moss the other. Plenty of roadside parking on the road below and a clear track from Wolfstones Heights farm.

This has undergone some work since last visits. Now has a wraparound "seat" commemorating the Jubilee attatched to it ......although it appears to be slanting and breaking away already. Path from road to the west has been bulldozed to make wider.....appears recent ....and more stone stored near pillar suggests there is some more changes still to come but not necessarily to the pillar.

Day 3 Ackworth to West Nab walk. Approached from Holmfirth via Hill Lane and Upperthong on a glorious day. While resting near to New Close farm we got chatting to the guy living there. Enquiring if it was ok to visit the trig we were told no problem as the land belongs to Charity. Easiest way is along a well used track from the E. Views glorious although the view of West Nab was obscured by the trees. Trig painted white and in good condition, very visible from the S.

Grafitti on pillar. Access through wood. Go to highest point on road, park by unused gate on left, broken down wall 10m down on right. Turn right in wood and go to highest point, this leads out to trig 30m in front

a quick driveby trigpoint .nice views.not on access land or near a public footpath but the route to it looks as if it gets plenty of use.some idiot had sprayed graffiti on the pillar

This is a simple walk from the road and has great views, but, as stated by a previous visitor, the spray paint gang have made it horrible to look at (hence the low score). 323m. Me

Another from the floor (shame about the spray paint) This should have been a lovely trig, but graffiti really lets it down. Poor Trig.

Easy access and good views, unfortunately the spray-can brigade can also get there easily. The once pristine TP is "decorated" with mindless scribble.

Actually the trig is better than good, it's excellent and obviously cared for - well done to whoever. Nice spot with easy access from the road or through the woodland to the west although neither are marked as right of ways. Heather past it's best today. The abundance of tracks and dips in the immediate area leave me to think that it's a bit of a mountain bikers area at the weekend. Good views down the Holme valley.
