Having 'knocked-off' eight trigs Wednesday gone, a six trig 'assault' today brings closure in just two 'runs' to the Cannock Chase & Chasewater (Stafford, Rugeley & Cannock) OS map 244 ...Wolgarston, The Butts, Brocton Field, Acton Trussell, Grindley & Sandonbank. For Wolgarston parked on-road aside the Quarry Heath road sign pulled-in tight to the side GR 93992 13885 & short road walking West along the B5012 slithered snake-like thro'a small hole in the hedge at ground level in-line with the trig. The trig, an ugly plinth affair 'bore' no flush bracket but did have about its base a benchmark. For The Butts & Brocton Field car-park parked at Chase Road Corner GR 98011 17571 & followed paths & tracks first up onto The Butts then on the way back diverting off to the Brocton Field trig & glacial boulder. What's the boulders 'mounting' about? how bizzare...perhaps it ought be done with the Norbar Erratics! Combining the two, the walk 'covered' by 4670 steps over 2.8 miles took about one hour & twenty minutes. For Acton Trussell parked 'off-road' in front of the Bednall sign 'housed' behind a fenced-off water supply installation compound GR 94472 17975 & crossing the road accessed the field via an un-hedged area. Keeping to the field edges 'made' for the wooded area from which an easy cross-field trek provided access to the trig. For Grindley parked off-road to the right of a cafe access entrance on the A518 GR 02822 29214 & crossing the road accessed the side-road leading to Grindley. 'Jumping' the first gate on the right 'made' for a diagonal South-Westerly approach 'jumping' a few more gates en-route before reaching the trig. For Sandonbank please see logging under that heading. Out at 06:00 & back home post a 169.5 mile 'round' trip from Salford, Manchester at 14:00. A relatively hastle-free eight hour outing the only real difficulty encountered being with respect to locating the 'moved' Sandonbank trig. Surprisingly in driving between trigs there were no nasty, narrow, rutted & pot-holed central reservationed with grass lanes to contend with. Three of todays trigs were plinthed with two painted white...Ugly affars & both dislikes of mine! Onto the Shrewsbury (Wem, Shawbury & Baschurch) OS map 241 next.
