Reaching this was a continuation of a walk from Conistone, via Conistone moor and following a wire fence from grid ref SE 998 708 which eventually leads to the summit of Great Whernside.Wharfedales highest point at 704m, surpassing Buckden Pike by a mere 2m. Well worth a short stroll east of the trig to admire the views of Angram and Scar House reservoir.

Unfortunately while we were attending to the paperwork these two disappeared into the cloud and mistakenly crossed the fence that runs the length of the summit ridge. As a result they were in danger of heading down into upper Nidderdale when in fact they shoulkd have been making for Threshfield! Luckily we heard their voices on the wind to the east of the summit and managed to locate them and put them back on the right track.
