Parked at the start of the forest track close to spot height 56. Walked around to the NE side of the hill where at NH695532 there is a overgrown logging track up the hill which picks up the mapped tracks which are a little over grown to start with then pitter out. Returned via the SE side of the hill following deer tracks down the hill.

Black Isle pillars complete! Parked at 686 535 after reading Emma's log - this was sound advice. Walked along the track and then just aimed straight up over bracken and brash. Quite rough terrain but never arduous. Looked in the wrong clump of gorse then studied the lay of the land. Ah! There it is. Structurally sound, FB in place but no cap.

Parked at 686 535. Os paths aren’t accurate anymore due to felling, one path goes whole way round the base of the hill with another path off to Ormond castle. This meant we had to make our way up the steep hillside to reach the trig which is pretty well hidden. Not many views from the trig but great views from nearby Ormond Castle.

Roadside parking (NH 6952 5412), ignoring the multitude of unofficial 'no parking' signs, surely all unenforceable anyway. Skirted SE side of Ormond Hill on a permissive path - what! after all those 'no parking' signs! South of Ormond some of the mapped paths (the ones we wanted) no longer exist. Turned due W at NH 6959 5333 over brash to pick up a higher track followed to NH 6943 5318 whence a direct(ish) route to the trig. Bit of light gorse, but nothing that needed cutting back. No top cap, or plug. With Carole Engel.

I went all the way around to the castle (really just a flagpole) first, to see if I could scout a relatively easy clamber to the top of the hill. I ended up ascending from the SE, zig-zagging my way through the ferns. Wasn't too difficult to find the trig, although it is surrounded by a few metres of gorse. No views, but a nice peaceful place.
