(2122) Weighing the options up, I settled in the end for parking (handy layby just before Farrar Wood) on the A661 - Harrogate Road. Decent walk from there to the start of PRoW. Road was pretty busy even early Sunday morning. Pillar sits in a hedgerow just off the PRoW, so getting to it is a doddle. Hedge and grass obscuring the top and the FB respectively, but nothing that couldn't be overcome. Non original centre cap - all else is good. Pillar history: Built on the 18th of January 1954, at a cost of £15 2s 8d. Last maintained by the OS in September of 1986.

The pillar was easily found in a hedge. I was running between Spofforth and Little Ribston, all the footpaths are good, you just have to skirt around some weeds and brambles around the sewerage works. Also avoid walking on the main road since there is very little verge and the traffic is very fast. Probably best to visit from the Little Ribston direction.

A revisit with my little companion - her 27th pillar. We parked on Ribston Road and walked up via the ROW past the sewage works. The vegetation was chest high in places. The pillar is in fine condition, safely hidden amongst the hawthorn hedge. Access is a doddle, as there is a scrubby field edge between crops and hedge to walk along. Replacement plastic cap. We returned the same way, getting caught in a huge thunder/lightning downpour en route. The risks we take...!

Trig sat bang in the middle of the hedge. Someone has recently had a bit of a prune of the hedge it seems. Trig in fine condition. Carefully picked a way back through the fields via the edges in order to avoid the dangerous road walk.
