Out with my walking group - The Irregulars, LDWA - and our route took us along the path to the east from Oxton. So, the opportunity for me to make the slight detour to this pillar was just too good not to miss. The pillar is in reasonably good condition and still retains an original metal plug. A somewhat enclosed spot to say it is the highest around by woods crops and communication masts.

First found the nearby GeoCache, then up the hill by the side of the woods and across to the pillar which is between the conifer woods and an unharvested maize/sunflower field [why do they leave these fields unharvested?]. There is a large chunk of masonry out of the S/W face junctions and it looks as if the pillar has been partly excavated as the concrete base is exposed by about 10-12" all round and there seems to be a large hole underneath it. Original plug with slightly-indented letters. Faint traces of paint. All sightholes open, Anti-vandal plaque on east face. B****y mobile-phone masts adjacent to it - I must start carrying an oxy-aceteline torch. Some views east and north but otherwise blocked by trees.
