The pillar is free-standing although not toppled, quite possibly displaced several metres from its installed position; presumably the underground chamber is extant. Both GPS and BM plates are missing, as is the heigt tag, and there is substantial damage to the block. Other than that all is fine......

Went to original grid ref no sign . Using Peregrinus photographs as a guide found the granite top in corner of field . Assume the rest of the structure is still underground .

Happened to meet the farmer (at Farmer's Farm to the W, while looking for the FB near there). He knows about BMs and remembered the FBM being damaged by his hedge trimmer. He explained where it was and was happy for me to cross the field from the road jct to the E. I eventually found the granite marker block at in edge of area of nettles & trees at SW corner of arable field, overturned and probably moved from its original location btu otherwise intact. No height tag. The old trackway which passed west-east at that point is still traceable for a short distance.

That's three of my 'local' FBM's I can't find (along with Ipswich and Buntingford - Wicken was so much easier! This is still marked on the current LL coverage, and there's an overgrown area protruding a long way into the cultivated field, so it's probably there, just well hidden. Winter visit required.
