Second of the 'Sapperton 4'. Railings enclosing trig are close to roadside so easy to spot, but whole thing is getting very overgrown. Got into the railings and cleared a lot of vegetation, cutting down numerous young brambles. FBM is in good condition and still retains height tag.

Revisit to find the rivet. Grid reference above is FBM, my reading for the rivet is SO 95063 02888. I tried sneaking along behind the hedge by the fence - could see but not reach. I then took the frontal approach which worked. I cleared a small amount of soil.

My first FBM. Located within grey fencing by side of minor road. Height tag intact = 594.88ft. Position logged from GPS device accurate to ±10m. Didn’t visit passive station 13m ENE of FBM on this occasion but will revisit to see it. TP0618 Sapperton FBM Aux 1 and TP5816 Sapperton both within easy reach.

Roadside - reading from GPS SO 95050 02881. The rivet came up on my GPS but accuracy seemed to be way out today. No map with me, so I assumed that the reading was faulty. Having now read the notes from dal and tom I realise that I missed it - however, the vegetation is daunting at the moment.

The FBM is sited on the side of a minor road; I walked up from the site of the auxiliary station 300 metres to the south. The pen is clear apart from a couple of brambles and some dead leaves. The railings are painted grey and the FBM has a height tag and an OS GPS plate. All that can be seen from the site is the adjacent roads and gas compound. As noted by dal 13 metres away is the Sapperton Gas Compound passive station consisting of a rivet of about 2cm diameter set into a concrete block on a small boundary bank between the road and the gas compound. The bank has been planted with a hawthorn hedge. The rivet was hiding under some dead leaves and a thin layer of soil; it was found with the aid of the OS sketch and by prodding with a tent peg.

Re-visited to log the OS Passive Station C1SO9502, which is 13.37m ENE of the FBM - listed as a Rivet. This is the Passive Station, which comes up when you do a search. Bizarrely a hawthorn hedge has been planted (as seen in the OS photo), so it is getting dificult to access. Delved into hedge from road, the rivet was covered with soil, but easy to find. I left it clear. No change in the condition of the FBM - always nice to see an intact height tag. Now logged separately as TP7838.

My first of these. Great opportunity to calibrate the altitude on my CSx for the first time in 10 months. It was 1 foot out! Still looks the same as in the other pictures.

This is my 7th FBM and the first one I've seen that still has it's height tag - 594.88ft. Very overgrown today, but the railings are easy to spot.

Lathama will kick himself reading this. Just up the road from the aux and before the left turn to Sapperton there is a small green railing box about 1 m by 3m on the waterworks side of the road nicely protecting the FMB from any straying cars. Photo to follow. BTW Gref pots out a bout 5m away on large scale will check my GPS log later

Disappointed about this. Again, searched everywhere on the crossroads but the verges were very overgrown and there was simply no sign of it at all. There was a new Transco pipe station on one side of the crossing which looked new, but I don't think it would have been removed. I need to come back in the Winter.
