This one took some time to time due to the amount to stinging nettles. I didn't have anything to beat them down so I had to use my body (legs and feet). The best way to find the FBM is to find the drain nearest to the bridge, walk in 10 feet and then go right by 2 feet. You will then trip over it.

Found it this time. The previous logger is right; they HAVE moved the road sign, down the hill. The road sign is by a road grid. Walk up hill two more road grids from that one, and the pillar is 4m into the verge from the road side at that second grid. I dug round it a bit and wire-brushed it free of moss. (I went all tooled up!). VERY difficult in summer; you'll need heavy goves, shears, spade, nettle oitment, tweezers for removing thorns, and plasters!

FBM pillar is totally moss-covered except for the "Ordnance Survey B M" plate on the front and the GPS Passive Station plaque on the back. Lifting some of the moss from the top of the pillar shows it to be badly damaged, with the height bolt missing. A rivet of some sort seems to have been inserted as a replacement, but that too looks somewhat damaged. Incidentally, the FBM is a long way from the horse and pedestrian signs! Either the signs have been moved, or there is some other marker nearer the sign which some others have found.

At this time of the year it wasn't a hard thing to spot but when the nettles are high.... It's best to park by the bridge where the surface block is and walk along the road towards Stafford. As a help - look for the 'horses and pedestrians in road' roadsigns that are on the side of the road going up from the bridge towards Stafford. The FBM is about 2 metres from this sign, further towards the hedge and slightly further up the hill.
