Is this yet another example of the NT destroying a trig? No FBM to be found, but a slightly larger stone block sporting NT signage in the location. I've stuck my neck out by classifying it as destroyed - if it wasn't someone would have found it by now. And we know just how much someone in the NT hates trigs.

Had a quick look around. The NT estate boundary stone is visible. No sign of the FBM. is it buried or does the FBM AUX replace it due to loss in the past?

Freshwater no sign of FBM

bushes well cleared away. no sign.unless NT built their marker block over the top of the FBM (as they did with column on Tennyson Down).

A forlorn hope but still had to be visited if I wanted to go to all the listed locations on the Isle of Wight. Ground far too overgrown to spot anything.

Less co-operative than Calbourne: I carefully searched bushes noting rcwiow.s log (a pic from that visit would be good to see), but no luck. Not 100% convinced its gone though. Informal path leads SSW onto Tennyson Down. 9/9/08 Ted points out there are details on the Passives site: http://gps.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/viewpassiverec1.asp?recnumber=H1SZ3385 This links on to a photo and sketch. The sketch shows it at NW quadrant of the junction; the Stone (NT) is mapped separately; the photo shows it to be by track, "hidden in middle of hedge". Exactly where I looked then...

Let's change this to DM. The NT block is at a cross tracks. Across the other side of the track leading up the hill, I am in no doubt as it bears clear evidence, is the site of this FBM now removed.
