About two miles south of Nether Stowey then west along Cockercombe for about two and a half miles. Steep drop to the south as road climbs. Continue to end of the road (don’t be put off by cars parked by a track with another quarter of a mile to go like I was). The Drove way and Triscombe Stone are interesting ancient features. From car park, south onto footpath towards high ground. After about four hundred metres paths fork, keep to left (east) fork even though it feels as though the west fork goes to higher ground. On reaching the top pillar comes into view. Damaged concrete, probably just weathered, faded whitewash. Low number indicates quite old (primary). Cap missing. Base exposed, erosion. OS plaque in place. Fantastic views all around. North and south along the Quantocks. Better views towards Minehead open out on the way back to the car park. Also called Wills Neck, highest point of the Quantocks.

The last one of the day, and easily the best. Walked down The Drove Road from the Black Hill pillar's car park, to find this rather cracked plinth-sitter on top of a big hill, surrounded by admirers! And pretty much at sunset, with such expansive views all around, this was a spectacular end to the day.

Pillar is located at Wills Neck, the highest point on Somerset's Quantock Hills. Parked near Triscombe Quarry and walked up the hill to the trig, then on to Aisholt and return through the southern part of Great Wood. Trig is in good condition.

Nearly dark when I visited. Some flowers left by the pillar. Surrounded by the same kind of fence as at TP1100. The nearest car park to the trig is the Triscombe Stone car park. It is accessible by road from the east, and via a steep track from the west. I would not recommend using the track (certainly not ascending it) unless you have a 4x4.
