In overgrown and deserted farmyard. Asphalt-filled cap and 2 sight-holes open. Nearby is the Westbury White Horse, the oldest (1778) and largest of the Wiltshire White Horses. Originally a chalk horse it has been concreted over and painted white. That is sad, isn't it? Above is the Iron Age hill fort: Bratton Castle, with splendid views overlooking the Vale Of Pewsey. Fascinating historical area, and somewhere near is possibly the site of King Alfred's victory at the Battle Of Ethandun (878). Great walk in this area.
