Lovely little summit with extensive views. An alternative route to the top from the east is to park at GR 558186 on OL5 by the railway bridge on the Edge Brow side road off the A6. Makes access quicker if you are after a quick bag off the M6. Walk back to the A6 and follow the bridleway through Shapbeck Plantation and over Out Scar besides Shap Beck Quarry which is impressive if you like things industrial! Turn right when you have gone through the gate onto the open fell to find the ring at the highest point on the edge of the fell - a superb and airy lunch/tea stop overtopping a scarp. As others have said, the trig is not shown on the current OL map. Don't miss the stone circle shown on the map which is difficult to see as it is in an area of limestone pavement and particularly so when the bracken is high. On this visit there was an old wooden marker post in the middle of it - let your eyes adjust and you can see the ring - about 10yds in diameter and pretty continuous stones/banking all the way around.

End of a lovely day and a nice bonus, ring trig on the top of a limestone scar (Knipescar). Waterworn and weathered limestone pavement to the NE of the trig. All round views up to Blencathra, over to High Steet and eastwards to the pennine escarpment, Cross Fell, Little Dunn Fell etc.

Came accross this whilst out with my walking group, The Irregulars, LDWA whilst on a walk visiting some of Wainwrights Outlying Fells. So it was anice pleasant surprise to find this. Looks in extemely good condition, apart from the water but it had been a very wet morning. Views from up her are extensive across to the main Lakeland ranges.

A pleasant walk up via the footpath from Risebarrow. The ring is at the summit, in good condition, and surrounded by grass so that you can't tell if there's a concrete surround slab (I suspec there is). Nice limestone summit.

I didn't know about this when I visited the summit (an English Yeaman, aka "Yeoman"). Norman Baxter mentioned it to me having visited & photographed it Feb 2006. From NB's photo, it's same design as the other ones in the area, (Seat Robert etc) i.e. concrete disc with raised outer ring, and central ?rivet. Apparently mentioned in Bill Birkett's Complete Lakelend Fells; Wainwright (Outlying Fells) mentions the summit but no mention of the trig. Nice summit, limestone.
