Thought this block was going to be a pain to find given the large hedge and overgrown bank with nettles and brambles. Block though was easy to find though and is still marked by the broken lumps of paving slabs.

First Surface Block logged. Easy enough to find. Most exciting part was finding a phonebox that was full of books. It had "Take a peep BOOKS (free)" on the door. On the way back, near Whitchurch Hill. Got several interesting ones.

Armed with Rob W's log we thought this would be easy. Not so! After some time trashing about through the undergrowth, Mr U2 spotted the paving slabs. "1" bolt in concrete block at top of bank, 9m from inner corner of concrete track as per os sketch, with a couple of bits of paving slab on top, easily found"

Hedge cut back and block easy to find after measuring the 9.1m. 1" bolt in concrete block. Cleared ivy etc away from it and left it uncovered with 2 lumps on concrete sitting on top.

Parking in farm entrance, not that easy to find, well not this time of the year, Surface block is located on the bank and lost in the hedge - take the OS sketch with you and mark out the 9.10m from the corner, then get up into base of hedge, all appears to be in good condition.

I noticed this Surface Block in the OS Passive Station Database (ID C1SU6878). The block was clear and straightforward to find with the OS plan - measure off the 9.10m from the corner of the concrete. The block is under the edge of the hedge raised above the road (probably why it was clear). The OS photo also helps. Photographs taken 11/9/06.

Hodmore Farm Showing the surface block under the hedge
Hodmore Farm - From the entrance to the farm The yellow arrow marks the top of my walking pole (which blends with the hedge). In turn that marks the block.
